ENGAGE™ Polyolefin Elastomers

ENGAGE™ Polyolefin Elastomers (POE) – Product Overview

ENGAGE™ Polyolefin Elastomers (POE) are premium ethylene-octene and ethylene-butene copolymers developed by Dow. These high-performance elastomers bridge the gap between rubber and plastic, offering the processing ease of thermoplastics combined with the functional properties of synthetic rubber.

Dow ENGAGE POE grades at a glance

Dow’s ENGAGE™ polyolefin elastomers are ethylene-octene (8000 series) and ethylene-butene (7000 series) copolymers made with single-site catalyst technology. The table lists the ENGAGE grades we supply, sorted by density. Two numbers drive selection: a lower density gives a softer, more elastic and more efficient impact modifier, and a higher melt flow rate (MFR, 190 °C/2.16 kg) fills thin walls more easily.

Dow’s AFFINITY™ GA 1000R, a functionalized plastomer for hot-melt adhesives, and the VERSIFY™ propylene-ethylene copolymers 3401, 4301 and 3300 are listed with the ENGAGE grades above the table.

How to choose a Dow ENGAGE grade

  • 8000 or 7000 series. Octene-based 8000 grades give the best toughness and elastic recovery at a given density; butene-based 7000 grades are an economical choice where slightly less low-temperature impact is acceptable.
  • Density. Grades from 0.857 to 0.868 g/cm³, such as ENGAGE 8842, 8180 and 8150, are the usual starting point for PP impact modification and TPO. Grades from 0.880 to 0.908 g/cm³, such as 8003, 8450 and 8540, add stiffness and suit film, sealing and plastomer-like uses.
  • Melt flow. Use 0.5–1 g/10 min for extrusion and high melt strength, and 13–30 g/10 min (8137, 8130, 8411, 8401, 8402, 8407 and 8400) for injection-moulded compounds and high-flow TPO.

Typical applications

  • Impact modification of PP and TPO compounds for bumpers, dashboards and interior trim.
  • Wire and cable compounds, flexible profiles and soft-touch parts.
  • Foams and footwear midsoles, often blended with EVA.
  • Hot-melt adhesives and elastic films with AFFINITY and VERSIFY grades.

Dow ENGAGE POE FAQ

Is there an alternative to ENGAGE 8150?

Several grades share its nominal 0.868 g/cm³ density and 0.5 g/10 min MFR: Borealis Queo 6800LA, SABIC FORTIFY C0570D, ExxonMobil Exact 5061, LG Lucene LC161, SK SOLUMER 8705L and WANSUPER 5007. Comonomer and molecular-weight distribution still differ, so run a short trial before you switch.

Which ENGAGE grades flow best for injection moulding?

The high-MFR grades: ENGAGE 8137 and 8130 at 13 g/10 min, 8411 at 18 g/10 min, and 8401, 8402, 8407 and 8400 at 30 g/10 min. Pick the density first, then the highest MFR that still gives the impact you need.

What documents come with each order?

Every Dow ENGAGE POE shipment comes with a TDS and COA; an SDS is available on request, and for applicable grades we can provide the producer’s REACH and RoHS declarations. We ship from major Chinese ports.
