ExxonMobil POE grades at a glance

ExxonMobil’s range splits into two families. Exact™ grades are ethylene-based plastomers and elastomers made with single-site metallocene catalysts, with butene, hexene or octene as the comonomer. Vistamaxx™ grades are propylene-based elastomers: isotactic propylene with randomly distributed ethylene. Strictly speaking only the Exact grades are polyolefin elastomers (POE), but both families toughen, soften and modify polyolefins, so we list them together.

MFR values are at 190 °C/2.16 kg as listed on our product pages; Vistamaxx data sheets also quote MFR at 230 °C, the usual reference for polypropylene.

Exact or Vistamaxx: how to choose

• Exact forms a separate rubbery phase in polypropylene and is the usual choice for maximum low-temperature impact in PP and TPO, and for sealing layers in film. Lower density and lower MFR give the toughest compounds.
• Vistamaxx is highly compatible with polypropylene, so it softens and toughens PP while keeping more of its clarity. It is used in PP film, nonwovens and soft compounds.
• Melt flow: 0.5–1.4 g/10 min grades suit extrusion and film; Exact 9371 (4.5), 5371 (5), Vistamaxx 6202 (9.1) and Exact 8210 (10) flow more easily in injection moulding.

• Impact modification of PP and TPO for automotive and appliance parts.
• Sealing and toughness layers in polyolefin film.
• Soft-touch compounds, flexible parts and elastic nonwovens.

ExxonMobil POE FAQ

Is Vistamaxx a POE?

Not strictly. Vistamaxx is a propylene-based elastomer, while POE usually means ethylene-based copolymers such as Exact. The two are often trialled side by side because both modify polypropylene.

Which Exact grades match other producers’ grades?

Exact 5061 (0.868 g/cm³, 0.5 g/10 min) sits at the same nominal point as Dow ENGAGE 8150 and Borealis Queo 6800LA; Exact 9061 (0.863, 0.5) matches ENGAGE 8180 and LG Lucene LC160; and Exact 5171 (0.868, 1) matches SABIC FORTIFY C1070 and SK SOLUMER 871. Confirm with a trial, since comonomer and molecular-weight distribution differ.

What documents come with each order?

Every ExxonMobil POE shipment comes with a TDS and COA; an SDS is available on request, and for applicable grades we can provide the producer’s REACH and RoHS declarations. We ship from major Chinese ports.
